Saif Ali Janjua
Today we will narrate the story of Saif Ali Janjua, whose bravery is still on everyone’s lips. Naik Saif Ali Janjua was born on 25 April 1922 in Sector Kotli Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He belonged to a Rajput family. Naik Saif Ali Janjua was a brave soldier of the Pakistan Army regiment. He was brave and a dutiful soldier who did not let any obstacle stand in the way of his duty.
During the 1947 India-Pakistan war, he was a commander. The government of Azad Kashmir awarded him the Hilal Kashmir. Later, the Hilal Kashmir was given the name of Nishan Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honor. He performed duty in the Kashmir sector during the 1948 war. He joined the British Indian Army’s Royal War of Engineers on March 18, 1943. After completing his service in the British Indian Army in 1947, he returned to his native city and with the help of Sardar Fateh Muhammad Kiralvi, started the work of establishing the Hyderi Force.
Saif Ali Janjua Join Pakistan Army
On January 1, 1948, under the command of Lt. Col. Muhammad Sher Khan, the Hyderi Force and the Sher State Battalion were incorporated into the Pakistani Army. Due to his services, he was given the rank of Naik and was made a platoon commander. His army number was 6A275. He set great examples of bravery at Bhata Khana and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy. When Saif Ali Janjua was stationed there, he had to face constant shelling and enemy machine gun fire.
He defended his outpost which he had established with the help of his first few men. Saif Ali Janjua destroyed many offensive plans of the enemy and inflicted significant damage on the enemy. He protected his post despite the indiscriminate firing of the enemy. The enemy tried to capture the post but failed. An attempt was made to capture it through assault and heavy shelling. But Saif Ali Janjua still managed to maintain his position with only a handful of young men. They failed every attempt of the enemy and at the same time, they were not letting the morale of their men down.
Nishan Haider
A sign of a good leader is that he keeps his platoon motivated. He was besieging Goda Karna with his platoon. He was hit by enemy fire. A bullet from the enemy’s cannon hit Saif Ali Janjua’s chest and he was martyred on the spot. Saif Ali Janjua was martyred on October 26, 1948, in a tehsil temple of Bunj district. On March 14, 1948, the Defense Council of Azad Jammu and Kashmir awarded him the Hilal Kashmir and on November 30, 1995, the Government of Pakistan declared the Hilal Kashmir equal to Nishan Haider.
The only person to be awarded the highest gallantry award of Azad Kashmir A is Naik Saif Ali Janjua who is the 11th Nishan Haider. Naik Saif Ali Janjua of 18 Azadi Kashmir Regiment is the latest addition to Army Number Six to Seven Five Nishan Haider’s list. In recent years, his name started appearing in GHQ documents. On September 6, 2016, Interservices Public Relations started publishing the name of Naik Saif Ali Janjua in various advertisements along with other Nishan Haiders of ISPR. Naik Saif Ali Janjua is also remembered as the Lion of Kashmir.
